A.) Plain w/Flavors (Ice with 3 Flavors)
B.) With Ice Cream (Ice with scoop of Ice Cream at bottom)
C.) With Azuki Beans (Ice with Azuki Beans at bottom)
D.) With Ice Cream & Beans (Ice with Ice Cream & Azuki at bottom)
4.)When the shave ice comes out you can give your flavors.
Shaved ice was first introduced to the islands during the
plantation days when hot, exhausted workers needed a way
to cool off. They would shave a block of ice with a hand
plainer and flavor it with juice. The concept has stayed the
same but the process has changed a bit. Nowadays, we use
a machine to shave the ice finer and faster, but still use the
original flavor recipes from long ago. Our family has been
making shaved ice since the 1930's when the Shimoda
family sold the treat in the old Haleiwa Theater. After the
theater closed, Sumie (Shimoda) Aoki and son Michael Aoki,
opened the current store in Haleiwa in 1981. The store is
now run by Sumie's granddaughter Cathy Aoki and son
Michael. Most people associate shave ice with the North
Shore and consider Haleiwa the best place to find the tasty
